The Queensland Government’s Shark Control Program has been slaughtering marine wildlife since 1962 in a misguided effort to protect people from the risk of shark bite. The ‘overwhelming’ scientific evidence is that shark culling doesn’t reduce the risk, and takes a terrible toll on our ocean. We have non-lethal solutions that improve safety for ocean users and wildlife. It’s time to heed the science, get with the times, and adopt a policy to transition to a non-lethal program that can better protect people, wildlife, and ocean ecosystems.
The letter below will be sent to the State Directors of both the QLD LNP and QLD ALP. CC'd will be Ministers and Shadow Ministers for Fisheries, Environment and Tourism.
